Six Sensational Things to do in Sydney.

Day Five.

Birdcage installation
Birdcage installation

Our last full day in Sydney is so jam-packed and fun I’m just going have to choose the top 6 things of the day to share with you.

  1. Admire the architecture. The Sydney Opera House, The Sydney Harbour Bridge, The Rocks, The Strand, Schools, Churches, all the sandstone buildings, the houses, the apartments, even most of the commercial buildings. Everywhere we look the architecture is outstanding. As we walk around the city we marvel at the charm. This is obviously a city that hasn’t had its character changed by a major disaster.
  2. Visit Angel Place.  Breathtakingly beautiful bird cages hang between buildings, chirping to passers-by. An art installation that makes us pause and consider how urban sprawl alienates nature.
  3. Eat at York Lane.   York Lane  is a funky, inner-city cafe full of atmosphere, run by a whirlwind who had us giggling with his naughtiness. Sweet treats include lemon spank, show us your nuts and swingers slice. We vote their cheesecake the best in the entire world.
  4. Go to the Museum of Contemporary Art.  This gallery is gorgeous and Read More

Hay House Writer’s Workshop in Sydney.

Day four.

I am such a keen bean I grab a front row seat in the auditorium with plenty of time to spare. This is the reason we are in Sydney. For as long as I can remember I have wanted to be published by Hay House and attending the workshop gives me a chance to submit a proposal.  First up is the lovely, tiny Cheryl Richardson. She graces the stage with her incredible presence and as she speaks I feel comforted that yes, I write in an easy to read, accessible personal way, that I have had a long career and I have worked hard so why not put my wisdom out there and see how it lands.

I feel ready to submit the best book proposal for Fairytale Love. How to love happily ever after so that they get that it’s a well written, word of mouth worthy book.

A Bliss Filled Sunday in Sydney.

Day four.

Today is the 2nd day of the I Can Do It Hay House Sydney event and us 3 curly top girls have tickets. Doreen Virtue is the outstanding star of the day. I swear she is part mermaid, part living angel. She is beautiful, inspiring and mesmerizing. She speaks of light, love and truth and urges us to let go of everything we think we believe, to let the miracles unfold in this massive time of change. She encourages us to listen our intuition, to trust that when everything in us is repelled by people who are inauthentic, that we are doing the right thing by moving away from them. Fakers are filled with fears and their darkness often tries to put out our light. We have to shine and tell the truth no matter what the
consequences. Read More

18th Biennale of Sydney.

Day Three

Even though we both wake up with sore feet from racking up pavement miles, there is so little time and so many more delights to gobble up – so its off to Doug Up on Bourke Street (901 Bourke St Waterloo.) It was named one of the most incredible retro, junk, industrial, treasure haunts around, and it is indeed spectacular.

Brunch at Mecca in Harris St keeps starvation at bay. We grab a great coffee and sandwich before heading to The Powerhouse Museum for the Lovelace exhibition to meet up with two special people who came from Canberra to play with us: Big sister Angie and her adorable artist daughter Bodine.

We catch a ferry to Cockatoo Island, which used to be a convict prison, for an art extravaganza like no other – the 18th Biennale of Sydney. Works embracing togetherness not only Read More

Sensational Sydney Shopping.

Day two

From Darling Harbour we caught the light rail to Glebe, to find the Clipper Café (16 Glebe Point Road) – listed on Concrete Playground as one of the best breakfast cafes in Sydney. It didn’t disappoint. We both ordered baked eggs, The Wolf had chorizo and I had mushrooms. It was light filled, swarming with daffodils and Irish accents.

Next adventure – a bus to Dues Ex Machina, The House of Simple Pleasures, to ooh and ahh over the industrial space oozing with art and motorbikes.

From the Town Hall we ambled to Hyde Park and then walked the entire length of Oxford Street. We visited a stunning art gallery in 5 ways filled with innovative contemporary art and continued to spend imaginary money, choosing prints from the Dr Seuss gallery. I’m pretty sure we left a trail of dribble at Dinosaur Designs – by far one of our Read More

This Little Piggy Stayed Home.

Six soulful days in sunny Sydney.

Day One.

this little piggy stayed home

It’s a last minute dash to the printers in Greytown to pick up the final changes on my completed manuscript before heading over the hill to Wellington. Mum kindly drops us off at the airport and we use the 2 silver Koru Lounge passes that The Wolf has kept in his wallet for such a special occasion.

Giggles the pig, who is being cared for at pig camp would be jealous of the scrumptious morsels we feasted on.

On board the plane I win an imaginary 32 thousand dollars on Who Wants To Be a Millionaire. We hit NW winds and had a very bumpy thunderstorm filled landing in Sydney where the temperature is still 29 degrees. We buy a multi-travel  transport pass and catch the train to the city at rush hour, suitcases in tow. I have to breathe into my belly. There are more people in our carriage than our entire town. Platform mayhem ensues. How we even Read More
