Book Illustrations.

With the launch and the great media coverage this week of Leanne’s book Fairytale Love – How to Love Happily Ever After (Greg designed the cover and graphic inclusions) we realised that we hadn’t actually posted a blog on the fabulous illustrations that Random House commissioned Greg Keith to do for Jared Gulian’s book Moon Over Martinborough – How an American City Boy Became a Kiwi Farmer, published last year.

Jared has had fabulous success with his book full of heart-warming stories about olives, neighbours, friendships and farm animals. They make you laugh and cry and want to live in the country on an olive grove. You will also have to spot the stories about us, aka Leelee and Wolfie.

UPDATE. Jared’s book is now called “An Olive Grove at the Edge of the World.” Available https://www.jaredgulian.com/an-olive-grove-at-the-edge-of-the-world/

  1. We have worked our asses off on this property and we still have many more exciting, creative projects to complete. There is zero room for boredom around here.
  2. It took us a long time to find, and nothing else in the entire country holds the same potential and capacity for dream fulfilment as this home.

Six Sensational Things to do in Sydney.

Day Five.

Birdcage installation

Our last full day in Sydney is so jam-packed and fun I’m just going have to choose the top 6 things of the day to share with you.

  1. Admire the architecture. The Sydney Opera House, The Sydney Harbour Bridge, The Rocks, The Strand, Schools, Churches, all the sandstone buildings, the houses, the apartments, even most of the commercial buildings. Everywhere we look the architecture is outstanding. As we walk around the city we marvel at the charm. This is obviously a city that hasn’t had its character changed by a major disaster.
  2. Visit Angel Place.  Breathtakingly beautiful bird cages hang between buildings, chirping to passers-by. An art installation that makes us pause and consider how urban sprawl alienates nature.
  3. Eat at York Lane.   York Lane  is a funky, inner-city cafe full of atmosphere, run by a whirlwind who had us giggling with his naughtiness. Sweet treats include lemon spank, show us your nuts and swingers slice. We vote their cheesecake the best in the entire world.
  4. Go to the Museum of Contemporary Art.  This gallery is gorgeous and Read More

Hay House Writer’s Workshop in Sydney.

Day four.

I am such a keen bean I grab a front row seat in the auditorium with plenty of time to spare. This is the reason we are in Sydney. For as long as I can remember I have wanted to be published by Hay House and attending the workshop gives me a chance to submit a proposal.  First up is the lovely, tiny Cheryl Richardson. She graces the stage with her incredible presence and as she speaks I feel comforted that yes, I write in an easy to read, accessible personal way, that I have had a long career and I have worked hard so why not put my wisdom out there and see how it lands.

I feel ready to submit the best book proposal for Fairytale Love. How to love happily ever after so that they get that it’s a well written, word of mouth worthy book.

18th Biennale of Sydney.

Day Three

Even though we both wake up with sore feet from racking up pavement miles, there is so little time and so many more delights to gobble up – so its off to Doug Up on Bourke Street (901 Bourke St Waterloo.) It was named one of the most incredible retro, junk, industrial, treasure haunts around, and it is indeed spectacular.

Brunch at Mecca in Harris St keeps starvation at bay. We grab a great coffee and sandwich before heading to The Powerhouse Museum for the Lovelace exhibition to meet up with two special people who came from Canberra to play with us: Big sister Angie and her adorable artist daughter Bodine.

We catch a ferry to Cockatoo Island, which used to be a convict prison, for an art extravaganza like no other – the 18th Biennale of Sydney. Works embracing togetherness not only Read More
